Riococo expands biodegradable option

Ceyhinz Link/Riococo is expanding its offering of biodegradable plastic bags. Previously what was only offered to cannabis growers is now being offered to all clients regardless of the crop being grown.
“For the past 2 and a half years we have been offering EcoPure Biodegradable bags to our cannabis and hemp clients. Our full line geared toward medical cannabis growers was exclusively shifted about 2 years ago, and the regular bags were only available via special order. The idea of cannabis being natural, and green is why we decided to take that push, for the growers to be fully sustainable,” said Eddie McMahon, Sale Manager of Ceyhinz Link.

“We had been getting questions from fresh produce clients recently looking to make a difference and not have such a huge number of bags going to recycling centers, or in some cases they may not have had recycling options for their greenhouses. Our plan was to launch this offering several months ago, but with the outbreak of COVID-19, and many places having Stay-At-Home orders issued, we had to delay that,” stated Shan Halamba, CEO of Ceyhinz Link.

“The coco husk is considered by many as a byproduct, or waste, from the coconut industry. But in Sri Lanka we harvest the husk for the husks and for us the byproduct is the nut. But, nothing on it goes to waste, which is why we felt all our products are OMRI certified as organic, and we should continue to be a sustainable as possible while we celebrate 16 years in business,” added Shan.

Riococo has made many initiatives to further their sustainability from adding solar cells to many of their factories, to streamlining logistics, placing processing facilities closer to the areas of our sourcing, and hiring locally. “All our steps and thoughts are to make our product line as green as possible and by expanding the EcoPure bags to all growers will help further our goal,” concluded Shan Halamba.
